Your age, education, and marital status form the foundation of your CRS score. Married applicants whose spouse is coming to Canada are scored differently than single applicants.
Select 'Married or common-law' if you are legally married or have been living with a partner for at least 12 consecutive months.
Your age on the date IRCC receives your Express Entry application. Maximum points are awarded between ages 20 and 29. Points decrease after 30 and reach zero at 45 or older.
Select your highest completed level of education. The credential must have been assessed by a designated organization (ECA) if it was earned outside Canada. 'Two or more credentials' requires at least one credential of three years or more.
Language proficiency is the single highest-scoring factor in CRS. You must provide test results from an IRCC-approved test taken within the last two years. Strong scores in a second official language earn additional points.
Choose the language in which you score higher. This is the language you will claim as your primary for CRS. Most applicants choose English.
Only IRCC-approved tests are accepted: IELTS General Training or CELPIP General for English; TEF Canada or TCF Canada for French. IELTS Academic is not accepted.
If your first language is English, the second would be French (and vice versa). Up to 24 additional points for CLB 5+ in each ability. Strong French (NCLC 7+) also earns a separate bonus of 25 or 50 points.
Only skilled work experience counts: occupations classified as TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 in the National Occupation Classification (NOC). Work must be paid, full-time (or part-time equivalent), and in one or more skilled occupations.
Total years of full-time skilled work in Canada while authorized to work. Part-time counts at half (e.g., 2 years part-time = 1 year). Includes co-op and post-graduation work.
Total years of full-time skilled work outside Canada within the last 10 years. Must be in a TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupation. Self-employment does not count.
A certificate issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial, or federal authority certifying that you are qualified to work in a skilled trade (e.g., electrician, plumber, welder). This is different from a diploma or degree.
These factors can significantly boost your score. A provincial nomination alone adds 600 points and virtually guarantees an invitation. French proficiency and Canadian education also contribute.
Have you received an official nomination from a Canadian province or territory through their Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)? This adds 600 points to your CRS score.
A credential earned at a Canadian institution (not an ECA-assessed foreign credential). Must be a diploma, certificate, or degree from a program of at least one year. Studying in Canada on a student visa counts.
Do you have a brother or sister who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and is 18 years of age or older? This includes siblings by blood, marriage, or adoption.
